Ride Reports

South Brent
Mechanical woes defined the day: two stubborn chain jams, traced to an unadjusted replacement wheel, punctuated a detour onto the deeply rutted Marley Head track. John’s veto of boggy Dartmoor and Michael’s promised coffee kept everyone good humoured before co‑op bench refreshments.
Games evening
The report is very brief: the club spent the entire evening immersed in a single networked game of Supreme Commander.
Computer games & Pizza Hut
Will’s birthday turned a wet, ride-free day into a cosy social: a sprawling morning battle on Supreme Commander followed by an afternoon at Pizza Hut. John’s magnificent chocolate cake set the tone, and George made us wait while he savoured the only dessert.
Games Evening
Our planned quiz was shelved as a marathon game of Supreme Commander ran to closing time. Five of us teamed up to beat three AI foes, then, still allied, we amused ourselves by trying to nuke each other anyway. A simple, absorbing night that everyone enjoyed.

Staverton
With rain due later, we took full advantage of a fine morning: along Colston Road to Staverton riverside, skipped the usual stop and headed home via Fursdon, just ahead of the first drops. The wet afternoon was redeemed by a lively game of Supreme Commander.
Games Evening
With Michael down with a virus and keeping warm in the lounge, the youngsters took over the PC room for lively rounds of Supreme Commander. A gentle evening of quiet care alongside spirited on‑screen battles.
Games & Quizzes
With Michael still recovering from a virus, the ride was converted into a games social at Crofters. Supreme Commander absorbed most of the day, with a break for quizzes in the middle.
Games Evening
We trialled a modded Forged Alliance Forever, co‑op against new AIs before going online—without Michael—against four unknowns. We were routed, undone by poor scouting and metal extraction, a sharp lesson in how regular online play produces techniques that are far harder to match.

Widecombe-in-the-Moor
A biting wind reshaped the ride, sending us off the high moor onto an unusual lower route to Widecombe via Buckland-in-the-Moor and Elliott’s Hill. There was a churchyard hunt for “My Dear Mother”, and later a local blamed a fox for the missing duck.
Games Evening
Another Games Evening centred on Supreme Commander, with Lawrence and Michael teaming up against the rest and winning both matches; we rounded off with some Modern Warfare 3.

Avon Dam
A cold, windy run to Avon Dam became a glove drama: only Michael had proper ones, prompting a rotating loan as hands vanished into coats on the bleak reservoir and boggy moor. With the wind finally behind us, we rolled home gratefully to the fire at Crofters.
Games Evening
An evening of Supreme Commander saw us finally bring down a cheating AI through dogged teamwork. Michael survived near-annihilation by missile launchers and kept rescuing others, took top score — until Will broke alliance and nuked him — and we wound down with talk of a France trip and conspiracy theories.
